Ah, Red...
Shall I read between the lines? Judith and Holofernes is an apt metaphor. Lovely choice of Mozart, to celebrate your "moderate optimism." The "opera buffa" has ended... let's now exit the theater... Did you enjoy Don Magnifico's performance? Let's leave him to "mediate on his dream"... of "magnificent donkeys"... one asino pomposo deserves another... ;-) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AzkTKx80XN4

Ahahaha...yes...Don Magnifico...perfect choice!
Ah..Rossini! I love his Operas! Corbelli is really great.....and what about Bruno Praticò? I was a fedelissima of Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro. Now my doughter has grown enough to sit in the stalls and watch an Opera Buffa: I shall return there. Here is Bruno Praticò....wonderful voice. I saw him in Pesaro..unforgettable........

I am enjoying Practicò's rendition as I am writing this... the individual who taught me to adore opera has mentioned this great Rossini interpreter. How fortunate you are, to have attended the Rossini festival in Pesaro, on many occasions. It's a dream of mine, to attend Pesaro, as well as other special Italian opera venues... Maggio Musicale a Firenze, Teatro di Verona, etc. I must confess that I love Rossini's opere serie, more than opere buffe. I would die to attend a good Semiramide, Tancredi, La Donna del Lago, L'assedio di Corinto, Gugliemo Tell, etc.

Cara Red,commento questo delizioso post citando il nostro amato William: "Now is the winter of our discontent / made glorious summer.."

a prestissimo

Buona giornata
ti abbraccio stretta
